Encuentro is a neighborhood wine bar and café featuring an eclectic, vegetarian menu and organic/sustainable wines from small, local and old world vintners. The creators of what may be Oakland’s first vegetarian wine bar include Eric Tucker, executive chef at acclaimed San Francisco vegetarian restaurant Millennium, and Lacey Sher, former owner of New Jersey vegan restaurant Down to Earth. Veteran home chef and longtime commercial real-estate agent Linda Braz is the third partner.
They boast an all-organic menu with a lot to choose from. “Vegetarian cuisine in the style of enotecas and tapas bars … utilizing seasonal and market driven ingredients.” Bruschetta, bocadillos, salads (Farro and Smoked Goat Cheddar Salad… Mmm), small plates like Rich Truffled Mushroom Pecan Pate (vegan) grain mustard, date chutney, caper berries w/ crostini & French Navy beans, root vegetables with Field Roast “sausage” and red wine, smoked pimenton (vegan). There are also sandwiches, cheeses, sweets and a wide selection of organic wines from small, independent producers.
